More entertainment (and editorial) than history
I gave up part way through episode three. First of all Afua Hirsch in particular takes the narrative off in many confusing directions that have nothing to do with Hoover and the time in which he lived. By the time she gets back on track it’s challenging to recall where we are with Hoover’s story. Second of all the disclaimer in each episode about the creation of dialogue attributed to “characters” in the story is insufficient. It’s not possible honestly to attribute ideas, emotions, and feelings to historical personages without attribution. Stick to the facts of what they said or wrote not what you think they likely did. I want to learn more about Hoover and his impact on the modern history of the U.S. so I’ll be reading one of the many biographies written about him rather than completing this podcast series.

This started well, has great presenters doing their best, but it has been buried under Wondery’s determination that presenters must act out the quotes. Unlistenable in parts as a result.

For example the TRIH mini series on Young Napoleon was the best (and funniest) podcast set ever. This podcast is okay because it gives...Read full review »
