Is Afua a repressed homophobe?
Fascinating topic but I found the analysis proffered by Afua, who speaks well and seems erudite quite problematic. Her theory - that the actions of a man in the 19th century (which now contradict revisionist 2024 values), can be best attributed to the internalised hatred of a repressed and physically weak homosexual with a high pitched laugh (stereotype), evokes a trope which seems quite tired. Why not dust off all the cliches and speculate on the size of his phallus. He had a collection of them after all…

Always enjoy listening. Fascinating insights to ponder. A good balance from Afua and Peter. I didn’t think I would enjoy the series on Hoover but I have been transfixed from the first episode. Slightly off topic here: Afua, is that you in the Boots advert?

I don’t hate it but, I don’t love it. It feels like the presenters/script assumed the listener is an idiot.
