Is Afua a repressed homophobe?
Fascinating topic but I found the analysis proffered by Afua, who speaks well and seems erudite quite problematic. Her theory - that the actions of a man in the 19th century (which now contradict revisionist 2024 values), can be best attributed to the internalised hatred of a repressed and physically weak homosexual with a high pitched laugh (stereotype), evokes a trope which seems quite tired. Why not dust off all the cliches and speculate on the size of his phallus. He had a collection of them after all…

Got about 20 minutes in and had to give up. Can’t bear podcasts where there’s music playing the whole time hosts are speaking - feels like it’s constantly in preamble.
