Episode 14 - Self harm and how to find healthier coping mechanisms

Episode 14 - Self harm and how to find healthier coping mechanisms

    TW - Self harm

Self-harm is often used as a way to respond to and manage emotional pain, overwhelming feelings or distress. For the most part, people self-harm without wanting to die but sometimes they may have suicidal intentions. Some people find that the physical pain of self-harm helps provide temporary relief from the emotional pain. In this way, self-harm can be a coping strategy used by individuals to help them continue to live.

If you use self harm as a coping mechanism, have a loved who self harms or want to learn more about why people do this please listen to this podcast. In this episode I unpack my journey with self harm, why I did it in the past, how to find healthier coping mechanisms and how to help a loved one who is struggling.

Episode 13 - 9 manic months with Sophie

Episode 13 - 9 manic months with Sophie

Guys if you’re going to listen to any of my podcasts about Bipolar, mental illness, dating some one with bipolar, being admitted as an in patient, mania, depression etc… this is the one!

I chatted with my friend Soph who at 28 has recently been diagnosed with Bipolar type 1 and it was beyond interesting. She talked about her 9 month manic/hypermanic episode, impulses, the confusion between personality traits and mental illness symptoms and we bonded over both being two crazy bitches.

Sophie is right in the middle of coming out of a manic episode, finding her diagnosis, coming out of hospital, figuring out her medication and everything else that comes with this VERY confusing time. If you or a loved one if suffering with mental illness or are you are confused on what to do please listen. Hopefully you can get something out of this that helps and I am sure you will!

Episode 11 - Are your compliments creepy?

Episode 11 - Are your compliments creepy?

In this episode we unpack how only complimenting women on their physical features is a product of women being viewed as objects and how this is a product of the patriarchy. We discuss how this adds to the narrative that women are nothing more than their bodies and how this perpetuates the idea that their weight, physical appearance and looks are directly linked to their worth. What a cycle! With a big F**k you to the patriarchy we unpack how we can start to slowly change this! What is a suitable compliment? How do you tell a girl you think she is cool with out being a creep? Listen to find out!

    Episode 9 - Cute isn't a compliment

    Episode 9 - Cute isn't a compliment

In this episode Tyler Unpacks language and how it can reflect and add to misogyny in our society. Tyler received an apology from a follower who insisted to continually call her cute whilst apologising, is this demoralising or should we just get over it? Is it a compliment or a reflection of a much bigger problem. She unpacks the power imbalance and what to say in a situation where a man is trying to speak over you. How correcting men when their language and actions are wrong takes a lot of guts but will also help pave the way for bigger change! Plus Tyler unpacks why once again Scomo failed once again!
