“I really enjoy this podcast on my walks home from work, even bypassing four great Adelaide pubs on the way home (but not on a Friday, when a few pints are mandatory). There is plenty of history, good banter and great humour. I think though that there needs to be some more critical assessment of the big J. Basically, he was some kind of gangster, the Tony Soprano of the ancient world. all the ingredients are there; the political manoeuvres, mistresses, private armies, family feuds, kickbacks and general skullduggery. Also, stop playing down the Roman army numbers. So a Legion was 4-6000 men, but what about the auxiliary archers, slingers, cavalry etc. what were they doing, watching the battles with a box of popcorn? I do like the diversions from the main plot but take issue with Cameron's venture off-track into the battle of Waterloo. Napoleon had the British beaten until the Prussians turned up? Seriously? The Germans did show up at around 4pm but the battle didn't end until 8pm when the Foot Guards smashed the Old Guard with some lead pie. So less hero worship of Nappy Bo ( and JC), pleeeease. Anyway, I'm still looking forward to the next episode. Also, I've started on Cameron's Napoleon series and I wish to thank Ray for his well researched and delivered WW2 podcast, of which I'm an avid listener. Cheers Chaps!

“it's like sitting drunk around a campfire hearing stories about your dad when he was younger (Except that these stories are factual and verifiable to the best of any laypersons abilities). The banter and tangents from the host just make everything more relatable. We are amused.”Read full review »

“The Authors said from the beginning they wanted to have fun with this and I believe they have accomplished what they envisioned. I like the perspective they both have on Caesar, I see this as a discussion between them, not as a vomiting of facts wich can be boring. Keep it up and I will listen....”Read full review »
