“Very pedestrian, cliff-notes version of Caesar's life. The Australian host ruined it for me after the first few lame attempts to relate Roman practices (capital punishment, etc.) with the US, as differentiated by what he calls "the rest of the civilized world". I listen to ancient podcasts hoping avoid hipster indoctrination and ignorant commentary on modern world politics.
The history is delivered in a direct but uninspired fashion and the banter is uncomfortable with the Aussie interrupting and contradicting and the other guy just being affable and agreeable. It's embarrasing like watching a married couple where one is snarky and the other is just smiley and carefree.
I had to unsub from this one, there are better options out there, including "nothing" as an option. You're better off getting audiobook version of Adrian Goldsworthy's Caesar: Life of a Colossus, or the Caesar episodes of The History of Rome podcast.”Read full review »
