1-Star for Misleading Listeners
I was immediately captivated by this podcast after being recommended by others, but by episode 5 I started getting really annoyed by the judgmental musings & contradictory statements by Dana. From the beginning she knew he was guilty, but because of the first 2-3 episodes paint him as being framed by the notoriously corrupt Lost Hills LASD cops, I found myself actually defending the killer! That is so twisted! When she finally “reveals” it’s him, it feels like she simply “settled” because no actual evidence was presented. She could’ve actually spent time going over case evidence, the issues with LASD, and really dig into the killer’s past “career” as a “Skip Tracer” (aka PI on steroids), and what evil corps like LexusNexis do in the digital sphere. Dana believed he made an implied threat by mentioning Pacific Palisades in a letter to her right after she moved there, “how could he know where I live? Am I being paranoid?” but she just leaves herself looking narcissistic because she never addresses the personal information files he stole from 3 young female brunette employees at the water plant (or whatever that really wasn’t clear in the podcast) and saved into one of his “4 electronic devices & phones” (why not EXPLAIN what he had on him??) — UNTIL THE 2ND BONUS EPISODE. Btw that 1st Bonus Episode made my skin crawl. That lady was lying & looking for her 15 milliseconds of fame out of a horrible murder case. Yet you platformed her for an entire 30 min episode… 😑 Dana also got many things wrong, including Brady — where prosecution has to hand over all exculpatory evidence to the DEFENSE attorney — yet she states this is “required by law to be given to Grand Jury” at trial. No. No. No! This evidence must be given to the Defense & prosecution can get away with anything at Grand Jury Trials because they’re sealed and unconstitutional. She mentions nothing of the ACTUAL trial, other than killer wearing a “spit guard” and being wheeled in cuffed to a chair. I’ve said more than enough. Don’t play your listeners by giving disinformation just to flip everything around on them. This is as bad as Netflix’s tired recipe for stretching a 1 hour doc into a 7-hour docu-series. A lot of Dana’s commentary bothered me. She belongs in the Pacific Palisades where people far richer and more elitist than Malibu reside.

I just read your story in the New Yorker and I’m and very excited to listen to this. Vagabonding around Texas and the west coast state parks is my life and I find park crimes fascinating and creepy. Thanks and Stay safe!
