Slick production with no story to tell
In no way does this story deserve an 8 part series. I’m not sure it’s even worth a standalone episode. I kept thinking something was going to happen, but the story just isn’t interesting. The whole thing feels very self-indulgent, like the 5000th attempt to recreate Serial. Investigative true crime is really hard to get right, and podcasts like this should really only be attempted by journalists who are already established in that genre. There are so many excellent long-form investigative podcasts; please don’t waste your time on this. Check out The Forgotten Women of Juárez, Someone Knows Something, In the Dark, White Lies, and Uncover if you haven’t already. When you run out, look for reviews from serious news sources. Or go through the whole catalogues of CBC, BBC and NPR (and local public radio affiliates) podcasts.

More reviews of Lost Hills: The Dark Prince
With a pile of things on my ‘To Do’ list yesterday, I couldn’t stop listening to this podcast. It is brilliant, and will draw you in. Can’t wait to hear how this unfolds. But huge thanks to the team producing this gift to the rest of us.

Reporter is boring and slow. I felt like the first podcast revealed nothing. I hate the “Payne Lindsay” style of reporting- where journalists act like they and everyone around them doesn’t have access to the internet. There IS nothing in this podcast that isn’t out there already.
