Never Knew the Drama in Real Life of Joan Bennet!
I, too, Was a Catholic school boy who ran home at 3 PM to watch my favorite Gothic, over-the-top soap opera, “Dark Shadows,” which at the end of the spooky theme song with crashing waves on the screen, gave a special end-of-the-credits to the Noir Queen: “And Joan Bennett as Elizabeth Collins Stoddard.”I knew that meant she was important, but I didn’t know why! Now I do! But what I do remember about that unintentionally funny soap (if you watch it now), which was filmed live, so the cast would have to cover for each other’s errors, is that John Bennett was always regal, in control, and a solid actress who could deal with the flubs of any of her costars with aplomb! Apparently that’s how she was in her life. This is it thoroughly satisfactory engaging story! Love it!
