He obtained his PhD from the University of Illinois, at Chicago in Kinesiology, Nutrition and Rehabilitation Sciences. He currently works in a research lab that investigates the impact of nutrition on whole-body and skeletal muscle metabolism. Dr. Mey uses clinical-translational research approaches to understand the links between nutrition and health. He is also a registered and licensed dietitian. In this discussion, Brian, Tro, and Jacob talk about the role of carbohydrates in the diets of various types of individuals, the impact of botanical compounds on metabolic syndrome, food restriction as a behavior in humans and animals, the potential benefits of taking “diet holidays,” processed food addiction, research on exogenous ketones and fasting ketone levels, a recent research study comparing a whole grain diet and a refined grain diet, and the carnivore diet and reports from individuals on their self-perception of its benefits.
