A biased account of the case
I like podcasts because they offer the potential detail of a book, without sacrificing the level of attention needed to remain engaged. I’ve intentionally avoided many of the documentaries and sensationalist media articles regarding the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, but thought I’d finally give this a try in case it might deliver the facts in a fair, detailed, interesting but must importantly...an unbiased way. Unfortunately Maddie does not do this. Alarm bells began ringing as soon as an announcement at the beginning of each episode feels the need to insist that they do not accuse the McCann parents of anything, but that they were previously considered suspects, hence the focus on their involvement. Almost an excuse for what is about to come. It then becomes clear early on that the producers absolutely do accuse the parents of direct involvement and proceed to present ‘facts’ that support this view. The trouble is any credibility goes out the window when they quote or interview sources from the sun, daily mail, express, mirror...or such beholders of integrity as Max Clifford etc. As a British citizen, we know that these sources are no more useful than a drunk racist down the pub in terms of establishing truth. I’ve no personal investment either way as to whether or not Gerry and Kate were involved, but I would appreciate someone to present a documentary or podcast, who can resist the urge to argue their own theory as fact.

Pat Brown has no formal basis to call herself a criminal profiler and has consistently tried to use this case to make a name for herself.
