Well-researched but too inconsistent to consider this a great show
Aubrey and Mike have great chemistry as co-hosts and I learned a lot from their early episodes which tackled specific diet-culture/weight-related topics one at a time at great depth. Their approaches to researching different topics and styles of delivery complement each other well. Areas of opportunity: 1) I’m inclined to agree with both of their stances on most topics but with that said, despite how well-researched the episodes are, I think some of their takes and conclusions would land more credibly if they gave a little bit more good-faith explanation of the opposing side. 2) My biggest beef is how inconsistent the show has become, probably since the spring. Prior to then the episodes would air on a consistent schedule, each clearly aligned to the original scope of the show (at least as I understood it - focused on weight etc.) Since then there’s been not even an episode a month (unless you’re a paid subscriber; it’s possible they announced this is going to be a subscriber-only podcast going forward and I just missed that). And the content that *has* aired over the last several months has been more focused on issues relating to trans body autonomy than to weight or diet culture. This is also an important topic but I miss the shows they did focusing on the original premise - maybe they should have two podcasts to cover both topics at the depth they deserve.

We so desperately need to unlearn fatphobic ideas and recognize how much harm fatphobia causes. If you’re a thin...Read full review »

I thought my emotions were dead. I figured it was a combination of aging out of feelings and anxiety medication. But this podcast. I have loved “Your Fat Friend” for years. Her work has been IMPORTANT to me. I have loved Michael Hobbes since I found his podcast “You’re Wrong About” this year....Read full review »
