“Having lived close to Obama during the key years of his political ascent, knowing Chicago and Chicago politics well, and being personally acquainted with some of those interviewed for this podcast, I'd say "this podcast gets it right." It provides a very thoughtful set of framing interviews--not just the well-known "stars" but also the very active and crucial but largely behind the scenes operatives. The interviews and interviewer commentary well contexualize Obama's personal contributions to his rise (yes, he's shrewed, thoughtful, reflective, etc.) while also capturing the structural and contingent conditions that leveraged Obama's rise. Interviewer/host Jen White is also brilliant. She's a recent addition to Chicago Public Radio (WTTW) and she is an enormously bright light.
