Was a Weekly Listener Until…
First off - Market Mondays gives solid advice. I was referred to them through a group chat where we talk about stocks and investing, etc. They had quickly become a go-to podcast for me to listen to as I work…but one episode just didn’t sit right with me. Now disclaimer, this is not to a review to derail any potential listeners, only a note for the hosts. The episode where (and I think it was all in one together) one man said, “all the Republican’s skin is gonna melt seeing a Black woman on the google screen” and then a little later a different host saying that people are so ready to take advice from a white man before they take advice from him. (1) As a biracial woman, who used to identify as a democrat and now identifies as an independent, one could say I shouldn’t be offended, but this just came off not only as disgusting in thought (someone’s skin burning!) but so closed-minded and prejudiced at heart. (2) While I would never want to invalidate anyone feelings, I feel like this was widely tone-deaf to make the assumption out loud to all of us listeners. This is a very successful podcast. All of us listening every week…why do you think we’re all here? To take your advice! I guess I’m just tired of political labels and skin color holding so much weight and being un-neccesarily weaponized, and at this point it’s hard to go back to the show knowing that things like this are going to be thrown like it’s nothing.
