“I’ve been listening to this show basically from the beginning (though now on a different platform), and thought it was time I finally put in some good words for Bryan and Robb. I’ve only somewhat recently come back to the world of comic books after a 30ish year absence, and had always wanted to read all of the Marvel comics in order to better understand the history, characters, and appreciate how utterly ridiculous all the long, soap opera-style plots and arcs are. Who knows how far I’ll end up making it, but reading through the 60’s with this podcast has been terrific.
Especially during the pandemic, when it’s hard to get together with friends, Robb and Bryan have become my de facto BFF’s, with whom I can feel comfortable talking about (well, listening, anyway) the incredibly geeky world of comics that is sometimes embarrassing for me to revel in public.
The biggest thing this show has to offer over all other comic podcasts I have heard is the way they always put the comics in the context of the times in which they were written, and talk about the then-news of the day that undoubtedly affected both the writers and readers. It may not seem like it when reading the older issues, but Marvel was always very socially progressive and that, to me, is one of its best features. This show takes that very seriously, and I appreciate how Brian and Robb discuss the equal rights and other relevant issues that come up in a very astute and sensitive way.
Plus, this show has not only one but TWO of the the greatest podcast theme songs of all time!
Make Mine Marvel by the Month!
