“…finished as capital G Great. Beautiful writing, narrated with a rhythm easy on the ears, but respectfully challenging to the mind. The audio of conversations and interviews are rich with earnestness and wonder. Props to the creator Peter Frick-Wright. What a bada*s storyteller?!?! He told a tale about a poem, a treasure, masculine identity, fatherhood, motherhood, wealth, loss, grief, desire, failure, truth, fiction, law, community, obsession, love and heartbreak. In a nutshell, it’s a tale about the poetry in the human experience. What makes it Great, is the absence of prosaic smoke and mirror. You can feel Frick-Wright doesn’t cut corners or shy away from what is difficult. Fascinated to look into any of his previous work and thrilled to see what he does next.
As far as the story’s hero, Darrell Seyler, if I could speak directly to him I would say this:
You are profoundly brave. To allow a journalist, and then the world, tag along as you hunt outwards and inwards, through mountains and valleys of human tenacity and vulnerability, is honorable and so full of valor. Revealing that vulnerability, is so incredibly powerful. You are an example of what I believe to be, a “real man”. All those that hear your story told in this way, will walk away changed for the better. Maybe just a little, maybe a lot, but better nonetheless. Thank you for that. Hate to be prosaic myself, but I can’t find away around it; you are a treasure for us all. ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️”
