Episode 5: The Age of Distortion (w/ David Moscrop)

There’s a common sentence you hear that the online world is not real. That whatever happens in social media is not real. This is factually incorrect, everything that happens online is part of the world world whether we like it or not. and if we take his statement at face value, this can be dangerous.
Our social lives revolve around the technology we have, s well as our business, our careers, our families, and the shape of what we think about the world. All of it revolves around what happens online. This can lead to healthy communities or dangerous ideas.
    There’s a blend here. A distortion.
David Moscrop, political commentator and writer of the book "Too Dumb for Democracy" is here to help us through the muck.

Episode 4 - The Group Chat - Is it all toxic or is it healthy?

Full Interview with Alice Cappelle (Bonus)

Full Interview with Alice Cappelle (Bonus)

On today’s Modern Manhood, it’s another bonus episode. This time it’s our full conversation with Alice Cappelle. A French youtuber, writer and internet essayist.

Alice if you heard episode 2, came into my worldview through a video titled “Positive Masculinity is Overrated.” A provocative title, but a sentiment I honestly shared,

As soon as I knew I wanted to do a season on tech the first person I thought of was Alice, and it was a great coincidence that she wrote a book called Collapse Feminism, which talks a lot about how internet and cultural conversation feeds into fascist and far right views.

So these are the things I wanted to talk to Alice about, as well as influencers, French masculinity, her life online, as well as what she thought when one influencer responded to her video.

A Good Start

The audio quality is a bit funky if you're listening with headphones. But I feel like this is a good podcast that will get better as it grows. Sometimes these kind of podcasts digress into being self serving rather than sticking to the podcast's theme, but I don't feel that is happening. I was worried with one episode where it became rather religious but then another episode had a queer feminist man and I felt that the podcast was geniuine in it's coverage of all aspects of being a modern man.

Great discussion of culture shift

Does being a man mean you have to be “strong” and “provide,” or has the definition changed? This is what this show is trying to answer and help to refine the modern definition of masculinity.

an interesting perspective from a new show

It is refreshing to see introspection and discussion to counter the toxic masculinity that seems to be prevalent in the pop culture
