Pushes the genre to the next level
Big, big fan of Tyler Bell and Jack Luna, and I must say, I was a bit dubious about this collaboration because I felt their style was so different to Sword & Scale.....but somehow it all meshes together beautifully. I’ve listened to “The Butcher,” “The Ripper” and “The Chef,” and I am very familiar with all three cases, but yet I felt I was hearing them for the first time. I was left with a mixture of horror and revulsion, yet somehow feeling sympathy for these killers that I had never felt before because I’d never been able to put myself in their shoes before. Usually a TC podcast will rattle off a litany of horrific childhood abuses in an attempt to elicit understanding of why the perpetrator acted the way they did. This podcast pushes past that and goes straight into the MIND of the killer and explores their thought processes and experiences. The rendition of Andre Chikatilo’s animal grunts and growls was one of the scariest things I’ve heard because I could see it so clearly. I was there. I could smell the fear, the air, the trees. That child, the victims, oh, the terror they must have felt! I don’t think a podcast has attempted to explore the reality of what victims experience as thoroughly as Monstruo before. Tyler Bell is a wonderful writer, and I will be the first in line to buy his book. Jack Luna is raw and honest and is not afraid to look the darkest side of humanity straight in the face and call it for what it is, and can also string a sentence together well. Combine this with the in-your-face style of Sword and Scale, and you have a crazy good mix that I haven’t heard before. Mike Boudout has a really good writer on his team (name escapes me) as well. This podcast made me feel like I used to feel back in the day when Stephen King was at his best. I think this pushes the True Crime genre into a new level and I really appreciate that these three creatives are brave enough to truly try something new here. Wishing them the best of luck and I look forward to more! Tragic Tracy in Oz

Both Mike Boudet and Jack Luna are extremely hateful to people on Twitter. Boudet is notorious for giving out the personal information of people who voice any criticism of his podcasts or behavior. Don’t give them a dime.
