“As a ‘very pleasant’ (my neurologists description !) 63 year old mathematician who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s a year ago after insisting I saw a neurologist (!) I have to commend you all on this podcast. It is brilliant to hear your mixed experiences and views on this condition . I already identify with your experiences and sense of humour in coping with the challenges and your different individual symptoms. I am still awaiting further investigations as I have some unusual eye symptoms which is frustrating and scary but it is so reassuring to know I am not alone with the slurry voice , balance issues, stiffness , reading and writing issues. I would love to hear more anecdotes about drug treatment in the absence of any monitoring. It is so evident that a more coordinated national support vehicle ( a charter (?) is necessary . Symptom database , diagnosis , medication , exercise (vital) , support possibilities . Your ‘coping’ podcast has been brilliant - I identify with everything your contributors say! I decided to ‘come out’ after a few months to explain my strange lack of coordination and convince friends that I wasn’t permanently drunk! It is quite exhausting to have to fight at every stage (from seeing a GP face to face to getting a diagnosis from a neurologist, then getting some drugs that work at all (?) and I cannot imagine how I would be if I had serious cognitive impairment ! My family and friends keep me going and are a fantastic support but I hate losing my independence . Every day is different but it is fantastic to find ‘my tribe ‘! Thank you!”
