This has satisfied every conspiracy theory energy drink rush English class analysis drunken on power fantasy I have ever had. A throwback to when I wrote an almost incoherent 7 page essay on the symbolism of fire and light in Fahrenheit 451 for my high school English assignment. It’s just the first pilot episode, but the setup, structure, and style of the podcast feels really good. Those Disney Channel movies are hiding something.
The boy turned merman, Jesus. The mermaid mother, God. The ocean, Heaven. The predestination of their roles, the punishment for turning away from their roles, the divine retribution. A commentary on views found in many Christian beliefs, particularly Puritanism. A movie about a boy becoming a fish. It fits together so well. Too well. I have fallen in the well.”
