“I tried to follow this heartbreaking case in the press when it was being reported but found it difficult to do so as so many details were unclear or missing. After listening to this podcast I now understand what actually happened.
My family and I will never go on holiday in Mauritius! There was a known gang operating in the hotel stealing from guests, the police knew, the hotel must have known, and yet they continued to steal and two of them eventually murdered this young woman on her honeymoon when she discovered them in her room. The evidence against the hotel employees who were charged was strong, the trial was a farce, the huge defence team slandered the victim’s husband and the murderers walk free.
As a lawyer I will never recommend Mauritius as a seat of arbitration because basic standards of safety and justice are almost entirely absent.”
