“This used to be my favorite comics podcast. Dave curated a perfect list that took us through the history of Marvel Comics and the discussion each episode was profound giving us clear understanding of the story, the historical context and its relevance to this universe. The addition of Charlotte brought a fresh point of view to the discussion making it the most interesting comics podcast out there. Well, at least that used to be the case. Now each episode is just a collection of complaints masked as deep analysis that doesn’t even try to find something good about what they are reading. They make it feel like doing the podcast is a chore and not something they do because they enjoy the topic. Before it was obvious they did their research of the creation and context of the books they were talking, now they just miss some important facts of the creation of the comics (this is specially obvious in the episodes Dave is not in) or miss some important plot development that would explain a complaint they have but is missed because they just skimmed through the book (they often acknowledge not reading the whole thing). I’m not saying that everything Marvel publishes is great, but if your premise is selecting the best and most important comics from a publisher, then you should focus on explaining why it’s a great story or what’s important or relevant about it and not just trashing the thing making it seem that it’s not worth reading and spending half the episode talking about something else because you are not interested in talking about the topic that people follow you to listen. Maybe I’m missing the point, maybe this changes are intentional to fit the dominant negative and shock driven media world we live today, maybe this content gives them the recognition and reach they seek, but that’s not the kind of content I want to consume by choice. Which is a shame because I really used to love this podcast.”
