The airhorn was fantastic and everyone who says otherwise is entirely and completely wrong

With everything else I’ve heard from the many former members that had to leave a community because of the nutballs swinging their nutsacks (metaphorically). I’ve heard from a hundred former members that these experiences are unfortunately common and seem unlikely to change. Not really so smart...Read full review »

You can really tell which of these reviews were written by the Mensa mob…..

I would have stuck it out had it not been for the air horn and the jeopardy buzzer. They grated on my nerves enough that I had to quit.

Nah
It’s an interesting premise, but the presenter has an unscientific approach to i.q. history and the application of i.q. tests. In a whole year of research she couldn’t get the details right.

I was on the fence until I heard the first of many rap air horns.

Jamie Loftus is amazing at what she does and I really look forward to what she does in the future!
Smhatdrake via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 05/04/22
Without a shadow of a doubt, Loftus is one of the greatest and most forward-thinking reporters in decades. We need to clone an army of her to deploy against the trolls of this world.

What an entertaining and interesting podcast! I learned so much about Mensa and laughed so much. Jaime is balanced and generous in her portrayal of the people she met in Mensa despite their aggressive and abusive behavior.

Amazing! Jamie is hilarious and such a joy to listen to

I really wanted to like this. I thought the subject matter would be interesting but I couldn’t get through more than 20 minutes without being confused and annoyed by the completely unnecessary sound effects. It was like a third grader got ahold of an internet “sound board” and went nuts. I just...Read full review »

I expected to like this, or at the very least not dislike it enough to give it a 1 star review. As a left-leaning millennial who is not a Mensa member, listening to this made me cringe throughout. The whole project felt mean spirited and bad faith. Essentially, the host sets out to troll...Read full review »

Well done Jamie! Great listen. I’m sorry about all the weirdos.

I really want to listen to this, but the air horn noises and jeopardy sounds etc are super jarring to me! Going to try to get through it, but wish podcasts would stop with the RadioLab treatment.

This was a very engaging podcast that I very much enjoyed. Don’t expect Pulitzer Prize level journalism, but a very fun and well-rounded reflection on a timely experience. Strongest points were her discussion of doxxing/cyber bullying versus “real life” interactions in a world where the internet...Read full review »

Poorly structured that makes no sense and fragments of story.. sound affect .. skip ahead or behind to another story that only correlates in her ADHD mind. She really must of been angry .. .. no way she is actually a journalist with no concept of story telling or reporting in sequence of events ..

Perusing the reviews, you can clearly see the angry MENSA dorks who are still pressed.

I've tried to listen to this with earbuds, a speaker, over computer but Jamie speaks so fast and the sound is so bad I've given up and deleted it.Read full review »

The host has found an interesting topic to explore, however she is at times annoyingly self referential, she speaks very quickly without pause, and she uses air horns to punctuate her episodes which is extremely annoying. I think with a little refinement she will become a great podcaster.

This is gold. Jamie Loftus uses no snarkiness, no character assassination - just a clever and well crafted production that shows that while there are lots of good people on Mensa, it origins need examining. And that smart people can be…. unpleasant at times. The prevalence of right wing...Read full review »

As interesting as this content was, I couldn’t get passed the completely unnecessary and juvenile sound effects.
Spankavoo via Apple Podcasts · Canada · 11/08/21
The most underwhelming podcast I’ve ever heard. She joined MENSA for a laugh, outed members who insulted her in their weird Facebook group, got blocked, went to a dull conference and erm…that’s it, that’s the story. Don’t waste your time.
Wamakasa via Apple Podcasts · Australia · 11/06/21
It’s clear Jamie has an axe to grind against intelligence as an idea. She’s too hip for just about everything, and never seems to connect the idea that satire is about punching up, not punching down. She does a poor job of reviewing the history of IQ testing, especially the evidence of the good...Read full review »

Best listened to at 1.5x speed. A great story idea, but takes quite a bit of time to communicate the substance. Some of the points she wishes to emphasize are repeated to the point of diminishing returns. (To choose an example: We get it: you don’t like unmoderated forums.)

Everything Jamie does is great

Interesting and insightful podcast with plenty of angst and drama on the nature of online groups. Jamie delightfully draws you in to her experience, I will try to check out more of her material.

Here after finding one of Loftus’ other podcast. Great tempo, fairly presented, funny and informative I will continue to seek out all of her work. We must protect her at all costs 😭

It took guts to go back into the den of angry selfie-obsessed (successful) test-takers! Great exposé!

I thought the story was interesting and I learned about something I hadn’t previously known anything about. (also the other reviewers just dont appreciate the comedy of a well timed air horn)

Listened to one podcast hosted by her and liked it so much that I’m listening to other stuff she’s done! I never do that, so she must be the best.

Remove the air horn sound! It’s awful and detracts from your actual excellent storytelling skills!

Really great podcast! I knew very little about Mensa before listening and I feel like I learned a lot. Obviously it’s her own perspective, but it also felt very fair and thoughtful.
Sabrina511 via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 06/11/21
I never looked into Mensa as I always assumed they were too smart for me and I have seen deferential references to it all my life that made that assumption feel correct. Jamie’s investigation in this podcast picked up that assumption and thrashed it about the place until its true form was...Read full review »

I liked the story, Jamie’s pacing, her comedic timing and delivery, and her willingness to admit where she got things wrong. It took bravery to put herself in that situation. I don’t see this as a vicious takedown of Mensa, but instead a nuanced look at what appears on balance to be a clearly...Read full review »

Great and interesting podcast about an organization I was always suspicious of. Excellent production (except the horn sound effect becomes annoying once the joke wears thin.) Worth a listen !
@bravecoach via Apple Podcasts · Sweden · 05/09/21
There’s about1 millisecond of an air horn every once in a while. I loved it! If that’s a deal breaker, 1)that’s weird. 2)don’t listen to this podcast. this was a great podcast

But the sound effects are horrible! I don’t understand the point of them other to annoy everybody. But the continent is really good

Great idea for a piece of gonzo journalism, delivered via inconclusive and somewhat disjointed anecdotes, all sprinkled with obnoxious sound effects.

Jamie has such a great rhythm and I absolutely love the sound effects. They make me laugh. She unfolded the story in a great way and I plowed through because it kept me giggling. Well done all around.

This could’ve been a really interesting and engaging story, but as many others have said, the sound effects make it unlistenable. I suffer from PTSD and sudden, loud noises are a trigger for me. It’s genuinely upsetting that I can’t enjoy this this content strictly because of its artless and...Read full review »
