Beyond the Bear. Fort Union Trading Post National Historic Site.
Hugh Glass is best known for his incredible survival story. After being mauled by a grizzly, being left for dead and dragging himself nearly 250 miles across the country - his story, or at least a version of it, has been immortalized in the film The Revenant. But Hugh’s life goes beyond his encounter with the bear - what came before and after are just as wild as a ride, and are worth movies of their own.

The First Murder of a Ranger. Hot Springs National Park. Outsiders Only.
When our beloved Park Rangers accept their positions to protect National Parks, they agree to a code of conduct, upholding them to the highest standards in their job and in their personal lives. Rangers like James Alexander Cary, took this pledge very seriously and did all that he could to preserve the park he was employed to protect. Hot Springs National Park was a lawless area in the 1920's, filled with illegal moonshining stills and gangsters that had their hands in everyones pockets. Many law officials were corruptible and able to be bought, but not James Alexander Cary. He paid for his dedication to the park with his life.

Queen of the Skies. Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site.
Bessie Coleman was the first woman to get her International Pilots License. She was also the first African American woman to become a stunt pilot and perform around the country. When her rising stardom and unyielding attitude towards racism and segregation leads to her questionable death, outrage sparks around the country.

Customer Reviews
Just Keeps Getting Better and Better!
Been here since the very early days and this podcast has become my absolute favorite. I love the rapport between Cassie and Danielle, the well-told and well-researched stories, and the variety of topics they cover. Danielle has mentioned being self-conscious about the banter in the last few episodes, but honestly, I love that too! I left a glowing review ages ago but I’m updating because I think this podcast has really blossomed into something truly special and I look forward to it every week.
Can’t stop listening to this podcast!
I truly cannot get enough of National Park After Dark. Cassie and Danielle are outstanding hosts that are spectacular at storytelling but also at giving care and consideration with their perspectives in each and every episode. Thank you for every episode you do and for bringing us along for the adventure!
Educational Podcast
I absolutely love how they try to incorporate indigenous peoples culture and stories in the parks history it’s so interesting and because of this podcasts I’ve found many books that have that theme or others about amazing animal stories in the parks. They also introduced Tooth and Claw and I’ve loved that podcast as well. Keep it up and more episodes please!!!
