I have been a subscriber to New Scientist since it began in the ‘60s, and regard the magazine as an important part of my news and current affairs information. This podcast is maddening however, dumbed down and interrupted by advertisements. Reading one can ignore an advert which is of no...Read full review »

Been listening since the very beginning and love it every week. Great work by the team!

It has extremely liberal woke leanings. In the pockets of big pharma and constantly pushing the global warming political/industrial complex agenda. It’s not what the new scientist was back in the 80s, purely about science. It’s a hopelessly infected organism, sign of the times.

The inclusion of “ CultureLab” and “DeadPlanetSociety” in the weekly feed is just too much. After I skip these, then skip the Climate doom stuff I’m only left with -10% of content. Then the space lady laughs after every 3rd sentence like she’s nervous to be doing a podcast or something. I’ll...Read full review »

This may be superficial but it is true for me. I am from the US and our country is presently so divided and acrimonious that one of the pleasures of listening to this podcast was the prevalence of British accents and a point of view that lay outside of US craziness. I know that the content...Read full review »

My Dad has followed New Scientist almost his whole life. My grandma put him onto the magazine when he was young. She was a biology teacher and told him; “This is a good publication, follow this.” He went on to study natural science at Cambridge university. Inspiration is the key. The podcast...Read full review »

Your 30000 year old amputation story is not worth saving and should be removed. It was 100% speculation and below par for the show and for inebriated 21 year olds at the bar or a dungeon and dragon Tuesday night meeting. Please review before posting or we’ll all need to cut the podcast off to...Read full review »

Repeating the main stream with one sided view is not science. 🤮

The only bad thing about this intelligent, informative, and entertaining podcast is that it’s only once a week. I would love it daily. It’s the one podcast I never miss.

Some interesting stuff but often gets a little too Blue Peterish.

I have only recently started listening to the New Scientist podcast, though I have been reading the magazine for decades. Here you can not only keep up to date with all the latest developments in various sciences, but it is very accessible, with everything explained concisely. Whether you are...Read full review »

What a weak argument with lack of rigor dismissing the source of coronavirus as the Wuhan viral laboratory. To me, it needs openness from CCP which has not been forthcoming. It’s like saying the high radioactivity in Pripyat was due to natural occurrence in the area.

Brilliant hosts make this podcast the highlight of my podcast listening week. They choose great scientific developments giving real insights at a level suitable for a curious layman. They combine passion and humour in their style, (usually) leaving me optimistic about mankinds journey on and off...Read full review »

This podcast has some very interesting topics each week. However, every week includes a very downbeat update on the COVID situation and most of it is still in the ‘this is very worrying’ category, usually about the ongoing appearance variants, without any balanced discussion of other...Read full review »

Just focus on the science, guys. This is the good part. The attempts at humour are cringeworthy. Please just ditch them.

This is my favourite podcast (joint with Jim Al-Khalili’s ‘The Life Scientific’). I find it really informative and interesting. I always look forward to listening to this on Fridays - it’s become a part of my routine and I’ve listened to every single show since the podcast started. The hosts are...Read full review »

Unsubscribing- this show is like a big advert for the mag, complete with a discount offer if I mention the podcast. I get that stories come from the mag, but this show is like a soft form of paywall. The stories need to be self contained (ie not rely on buying the mag) and the plugs for the mag...Read full review »

A nice summary of current developments in science. The hosts are really good on this one. They come across as informed and eager to share discoveries with the audience. Some of the low reviews here seem to be that people are irate about a certain piece not conforming to their current view. Perhaps they don’t know the magazine and the type of articles that are written in it. It’s to inform and educate rather than digging into deep conspiracies or holding people...Read full review »

The information presented on Coronavirus is wrong and terribly presented. The CDC says wiping down surfaces with diluted bleach is extremely effective at killing coronavirus. This show is informative when it sticks to science. It’s infuriating when it wheels in convenient left wing “experts” who eg a) assert, without evidence, that more welfare state is the solution for Covid 19 and b) refuse to recognize that closing down Chinese wet markets will stop the majority of...Read full review »

The recent episodes are trying so hard not to point the finger of blame for this virus outbreak. Tell the truth .. if scientists don’t tell the truth, who can people trust?! The disgusting treatment of animals and savage attitudes to nature are the cause. And we all know the origin. Again.

It’s a great idea to make a NS podcast, but please, please, please treat your audience as adults with an interest in the serious material you are presenting.
Jonb8s via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 02/24/20
Interesting topics but presenters seemingly have caught each other’s annoying tendency to “up-talk” and start sentences with the word “so”. Trying to be a bit too cool, perhaps.

i’m not a scientist but love new scientist magazine. you get the latest academic journal news condensed in a way the merely curious (not trained) can grock. this podcast is a great addition. likeable, interesting hosts with a fun bit about sci fi come true each week. don’t miss!
