I stumbled across this podcast by pure luck, and while in Covid-19 quarantine, I listened to every.single.episode in a single week. FYI, that was three years of his work, for which I did pay, because he bloody well deserved it for such fantastic craftsmanship.
I am listening to his performances on other shows now, because I am a newly minted fan as I write this. Kristin Holland is a phenomenal voice actor, and this show is just THAT good.
His intro/outro character voice is every bit as ICONIC as John Kassir’s “Crypt keeper” from HBO’s “Tales from the Crypt.” It’s not a fair comparison because these are two VERY different performers, with very different responsibilities, in separate mediums, with wildly divergent resources dictating how the work was...executed.
The “Narrator” (glad he has no name) is such a specific character voice you can *instantly* see this character in your mind. I honestly have played episodes on repeat because I find The Narrator and his “other” voices, soothing to listen to; despite the nature of the content.
Kristin does all the voices, and at times, it’s staggering to consider it’s the same individual.
Truly. Outstanding.
The show is very well edited, with high quality vocal sound, and the occasional ambient sound effects sprinkled in here and there.
In a creatively just world, this show would get a full ambisonic sound mix - because it deserves it. It could easily be an amazing anthology streamer.
However, such an extra digital treat is minor when offset against such superlative skill and talent. Be kind. Share. Pay up. I know you will enjoy these shows as much as I did, Gentle Listener...
