“Reading the one star reviews complaining about the Spanish pronunciation and complaining the story was politicized was odd. Those reviewers were clearly politicizing something that just wasn’t there and others were probably being racist in their critiques.
The story was very well and objectively told without the narrator adding her opinion. Overall, I think this story highlights less that the police were under resourced, although they were, and more that they are horribly undertrained. Chasing heavily armed criminals through neighborhoods where a child was shot and hiding behind an occupied civilian truck causing the driver to become a target like a bunch of Dirty Harry wannabes as one of the cops described himself. Instead they could have let the robbers get away and then done some real detective work to bring them down without anyone having to die.”
