Today I am joined by someone who leads with radical, honest content that challenges toxic positivity. I'm interviewing Whitney Goodman, an author and licensed psychotherapist who many feel is a breath of fresh air in this busy mental health conversation that can often promote unattainable positivity. She has a brand new book out called Toxic Positivity: Keeping It Real in a World Obsessed with Positive Thinking and this book really explores a lot of the B.S we see online.
This idea that if you just think more positively, everything will become a possibility. I obviously love positive energy and I've interviewed some incredible people around the idea of manifestation but I love how Whitney brings nuance to this conversation. Whitney uses her own experiences as a therapist to show why these approaches can be extremely harmful to our mental health and alternatively suggests a more realistic and perhaps a more authentic way to move through life, heal and create an experience that's honest and still deeply fulfilling.
