The Incredibles -- A Now Playing Bonus Review

Pixar films including Toy Story, Monsters Inc., and Finding Nemo, had been smash hits. That was the risk they took with The Incredibles -- Pixar's first superhero film. The gamble worked and Pixar had another hit, but how does this film hold up more than 10 years later? Join Stuart, Arnie, and Jakob to find out!

    X-Men: Days of Future Past

    X-Men: Days of Future Past

Marvel's Avengers film upped audience expectations by bringing four solo cinematic superheroes together for one explosive adventure. Now Fox tries to go one better by bringing two entire superteams together! The catch: they're both the X-Men. In X-Men: Days of Future Past the original X-Men and the First Class cast share the screen with a dozen new mutants to try and save their species from annihilation at the hands of giant robot sentinels. Does this giant cast lead to X-treme confusion or, in the hands of returning director Bryan Singer is this X-ceptional entertainment? Listen to Now Playing's review to find out!

    The Wolverine

    The Wolverine

Wolverine cannot be killed, and it seems neither can his film franchise. Despite tepid fan response to X-Men Origins: Wolverine a second solo film featuring Hugh Jackman was quickly put into production. With creative changes behind-the-scenes and a change to make The Wolverine a sequel to X-Men: The Last Stand, it was released with the promise of being "The Wolverine film you've been waiting for." Does it live up to that hype? Listen to Arnie, Jakob, and Stuart's latest X-Men movie review to find out as we bide our time until 2014's X-Men: Days of Future Past!

    X-Men: First Class

    X-Men: First Class

The final episode in our X-Men retrospective series is here as the latest X-Men film, X-Men: First Class, is released. With Matthew Vaughn, director of the beloved Kick-Ass comic adaptation, behind the camera and Bryan Singer back on the team as a producer and writer this time, the X-Men boldly go where many franchises have gone before--the origin story reboot. But with a highly publicized rushed production schedule and a group of actors who have received acclaim but never had to carry a franchise film before, can X-Men: First Class continue the origin story reboot success of such films like Star Trek, Casino Royale, and Batman Begins? Listen to our review as Arnie, Jakob, and Stuart review this latest film and find out for yourself!

    X-Men Origins: Wolverine

    X-Men Origins: Wolverine

Hugh Jackman has gone solo in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, a prequel showing Wolverine's life from his boyhood in 19th Century Canada through his memory loss at Three Mile Island. And in place of the X-Men supporting him, Wolverine is now surrounded by such fan favorite mutants as Deadpool, Gambit, and Agent Zero. Do Arnie, Stuart, and Jakob find this trip down Wolverine's memory lane a exciting adventure, or were these memories best left forgotten? Listen to find out!

The best movie review podcast. PERIOD!

I’ve been listening to Now Playing since the beginning and the shows just get better and better.

Arnie, Jacob and Stewart have great viewpoints and opinions on the movies they revue, even making me see some movies in a new light.
They have a good time together discussing the movies and Arnie and Stewart have such a long friendship that it makes the banter all the better.

You need to listen to this show if you love movie!!!!

Clueless PC Prattle

I started listening to the episode on the first X-Men movie. The first 15 minutes was spent on the prologue where young Erik Lehnsherr (later to become Magneto) is a prisoner at a Nazi death camp with his parents. In my opinion, it’s one of the best openings in a superhero movie. It is a tragically visceral scene that immediately gives insight, understanding, and sympathy for the eventual villain of the movie. It informs Magneto’s motives, sets up the Martin Luther King v Malcom X like struggle between Professor X and Magneto, and illuminates the irony that Erik, now as Magneto, has become the tyrant, the oppressor, and the butcherer of the innocent, much like the Nazi’s that killed his parents.

But the podcasters miss these points almost entirely and instead prattle “politically correct” nonsense about how it was disrespectful to the memory of the Holocaust. How is it disrespectful?! Do these podcasters understand the phrase “never forget”? We should never forget the Holocaust and the capacity of man’s evil toward one another, and having this in a superhero movie reminds even teenagers of this tragic reality.

The podcasters then move to the scene of the debate on mutant registration. They say that it didn’t seem very realistic in 2000, but is much more realistic now with the “tea party” movement. Once again, they are clueless. The tea party movement was about LIMITING government and its power. Sadly, the podcasters appear to be mere simpletons regurgitating pc propaganda, a cacophony of cymbal banging in a vacuous wind tunnel. At this point, I stopped the podcast to search for something more intelligent and entertaining.
