The strike could cost the U.S. economy billions of dollars a day, as supply shortages and inflation are considered likely. Rescue efforts continue in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. The storm killed at least 143 people, and hundreds more are unaccounted for in North Carolina. Over a million are still without power in the Southeastern United States.
