“Every podcast will have some tangents, but there is often more discussion about random things than the show per episode. In the most recent podcast I’ve listened to, the first 20 minutes was almost entirely about Jenna not watching Star Wars and Angela watching a parking garage. These would be fine if they were brief tangents but they last up to 15 minutes every time. I start to dread whenever one of them mentions something off topic because I know it will be forever before they actually get to talking about the show again. The actual content about the Office is great, but I’ve probably heard more about cooking, their families, and clothing then I have about the show. They’re charming, but it’s too much when, after ads, the podcast is often 30-40% about the office and 60-70% about something completely different. It’s still a weekly listen for me, but I’ve gotten to the point that I’m fast forwarding through drivel to get to the content suggest by the title of the podcast.
It’d be ideal if these two would start a second podcast where they can chat up their lives, because I’m sure there are plenty of folks who enjoy it. And yes, Jenna and Angela should absolutely sprinkle in personal details to add to the charm of the podcast. However, there’s just too much unrelated chit chat for this to really feel like an Office podcast. If you’re a fan, it’s still worth listening to, but you’ll probably be skipping through more than half of it unless you’re just as interested in their hobbies and mundane experiences.”
