Brian Horton | The Official Man City Podcast

Description
In this episode of the Man City podcast, Rob is in conversation with Brian Horton, City manager between 1993-95. With Peter Reid sacked after just four games of the 1993-94 season, chairman Peter Swales approached Oxford and asked for permission to speak to Brian. He was installed as manager days later, becoming the last managerial appointment of the Swales era. But it was a turbulent period in the Club’s history, with City in a state of civil war as the Swales Out campaign gathered momentum. City’s chairman of 20 years was ousted in February 1994, just six months after Horton came in, replaced by former player Francis Lee. Horton kept City in his first season, with the arrivals of Paul Walsh, Uwe Rosler and Peter Beagrie vital, and the following campaign started superbly, with City managing big wins over Everton, West Ham and, most famously, a brilliant Spurs side, playing a vibrant, attacking brand of football. But that early promise subsided, giving way for a poor second half of the season, and Horton was sacked by Lee as the campaign came to an end. Here, Rob and Brian discuss his time at City, his pursuit of Luis Figo and the bitter nature of his sacking in the summer of 1995.   See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
