Episodes
This week’s episode is historic and important for so many reasons! We got the legendary Squad chat together for the first time EVER. What else could bring us together like the combined feminine angst of Taylor Swift’s Red album and Adele’s new 30? We deep dive into our reactions to these two albums, and compare them too. What we’re *not* going to do is pit two powerhouse women against each other, but we talk about what parts of the albums make us feel seen and which parts leave us just…feeling.

Last week, Sara and Ty had the pleasure of being in the guest seat over at @thebeardswatch with @jrolnation , @justduvall, and @jeebs1988 . We talked about a lot of our favorite pop culture majors, and Ty definitely got to fill her tank on reality TV discussions. @justduvall had some classic Oh Tell Me More spicy takes - you’ll have to go give it a listen to find out what it was!

Welcome back to the Oh Tell Me More Podcast! We have missed you! In May, Netflix came out with a documentary series called High on the Hog, which explores how African cuisine has shaped US food culture. We had our friend Mary Beth back on the podcast to talk about our thoughts from this four-episode series. Of course, this launched us into talking about lots of other things as well. We’ve linked some resources below, Thanks for tuning in! High on the Hog Trailer

What do you use to give your life structure? Are you someone who thrives on rules and principles? Or do you prefer to be a free spirit? Even someone who despises rules still has principles they abide by. This week, Sara and Ty are having a coffee chat about all the different kinds of House Rules we’ve made for ourselves. Not only that, but every House Rule should have some exceptions, so we dive into the nuance of that as well. Hop over to @ohtellmemorepod to let us know what YOUR house rules...

This week, it’s Sara’s bday week and we’re giving Sara the freedom to let her freak flag fly and be UNHINGED about her love for the one and only Taylor Swift. This week, we’re doing things a little differently. As you may know, June 19th is a holiday for many Black Americans known as Juneteenth, which is a celebration of when the news of the Emancipation Proclamation finally arrived in Galveston, Texas on June 19, 1865 (yes, TWO YEARS after it had been signed!). Because it is a holiday that is all about liberation and Black joy, Sara sat this episode out and let Ty, Kathleen, and Ashia take us on a whole journey.

We’re closing out AAPI Heritage Month by talking to our friend Abigail Jackson, a Filipino-White web designer who graciously shares the story of how she received her Batok (a traditional Filipino tattoo). She also shares her pop culture majors and thoughts about being an enneagram 4. We LOVED this conversation about all the different layers that make up a person and hope it will inspire you to think about the different layers that make you YOU also.

When we started this podcast, we wanted to bring others along to our coffee chats where we’re constantly learning from one another, particularly in the realms of pop culture, justice, and the enneagram. Today we just wanted to update you on some of the things we’ve been learning recently! We’ll cover things like the recent Hamilton criticisms, President Obama’s book that came out last year, Sara’s seminary program inside of a prison, and Ty’s new small group called the Badass Grandmas.

For our next enneagram focused episode, we thought we’d explore how it interacts with other personality frameworks. All of these tools, when used together, can give us robust language for understanding ourselves and others. While we believe the Enneagram is not a personality framework (which you’ll hear about in the episode), we also see the utility of things like the Meyers Briggs, DISC, and Strengths Finder.

We’re back! We’re dropping a BONUS episode with our friend Jax where we deep dive into the Oscars. Movies are Jax and Sara’s POP CULTURE MAJORS! So Ty takes the interview seat (and jumps in with her own thoughts too!) and lets us go off into all our weird niches. In true OTMM form, this might be a conversation about an awards show, but we talk about fashion and body image, trans rights and representation, diversity vs equity, and so much more.

This week, we’re having John Caleb Pendleton of @planksandpistils on to talk about the dignity of blackness, and how flowers have played an integral role on his journey of self-acceptance. No cap, we laughed and cried throughout this whole recording, and it’s such an honor to share it with you now!

We are excited to share with you that we’re starting a series exploring different facets of resistance. We understand resistance to be the ways we free ourselves from bondage to patriarchy, white supremacy, and colonialism. Our first exploration is with Mary Beth Johnson, a chronically ill food blogging Chapina who works in the Austin neighborhood of Chicago to teach young people about food justice and holistic nutrition.
