Many of us grew up in environments where we were not taught to express or manage our emotions. Changing The Menopause Conversation

    Changing The Menopause Conversation

For so many years menopause has been a taboo subject - barely talked about between friends, let alone in mainstream media. I don’t know about you but I never heard the term peri-menopause before about 5 years ago.  And as a result many women have suffered in silence,  weren’t able advocate for their health and felt isolated and alone in their experience.

Today’s guest Laura Okafor-Crane is on a mission to change all that. She is the founder of Perry, affectionately known as the Perry Sisterhood, a platform and information resource for women in peri-menopause, approaching peri-menopause, and post-menopause.  Perry is changing the way we talk about life during and after menopause by providing access to information, resources, expert advice and most importantly, as Laura shares, peer to peer support and community.

After watching her mother struggle through menopause in silence Laura wants to make ensure its a different experience for future generations. Perry is a safe space where women can come together to support each other.  Its about education empowerment  and self advocacy for all women in the menopause transition.

We talk about the lack of awareness and education on menopause in the medical community and how it often leads to to dismissive attitudes and misdiagnosis.
Why community and peer-to-peer support is so important
How empowering women with knowledge about menopause is crucial for them to make informed decisions now and in years to come
How her expertise in global product management  has been instrumental in the development and growth of  the Perry platform.

If you are menopausal, approaching menopause or have questions about menopause this is the episode for you.

    _________

Laura is the founder and CEO of perry – a community app for perimenopause with more than 12k members. perry is a safe space to connect, support and learn during the  menopause transition.

Laura  is a FMCG veteran with 12+ years global Marketing experience at Procter & Gamble and Coty. It is her greatest passion to build spaces that serve the underserved.

Having experienced her mother struggling in silence during the menopause transition and being a millennial who approaches perimenopause herself,  she was shocked by how little the support system around fertility and pregnancy matches the support women get when approaching perimenopause - which is close to none.

It is her mission to equip the upcoming generation entering the menopause transition with community and education - allowing ultimate self-advocacy.
Laura, being half Nigerian herself, loves Nigerian ‘Nollywood’ movies and lives with her husband and 2 sons.

How Clutter Is Keeping You From Your Goals and Dreams

How Clutter Is Keeping You From Your Goals and Dreams

This episode features Star Hansen, a professional organizer, clutter whisper and author of the book Why the F*#@ Am I Still Not Organized?
We discuss the real meaning of clutter, why we have it and its impact on our lives. She shares that clutter is not a peronsal fault but rather a sign of genius and encourages listeners to become resilient and unshakable in the face of clutter.

We delve deep into the energetic impact of clutter and its connection to achieving the goals and desires we have for our lives and explore the connection between clutter and generating ideas, as well as the relationship between clutter and the creative process.

Star shares the importance of having a vision for your life, setting smaller goals and how organizing can help you transform your life.

    Takeaways

Clutter is not a personal fault and should not be shamed.
Clutter can serve a purpose and meet certain needs in our lives.
Understanding the energetic impact of clutter can help us address specific areas of our lives that may be blocked.
Setting intentions and taking small steps can help build trust in the organizing process. Ask three questions for every room: what activities do you want to do in the space, how do you want it to look, and how do you want it to feel.
Having a vision for your life is important for organizing. Start with small goals if long-term goals feel overwhelming.
Organizing can help you discover who you are and transform your life.
Collect and organize your ideas and projects to make them more manageable.
Reframe clutter as a sign of genius and see the message in the mess.

    ___________
Star Hansen is a Certified Professional Organizer (CPO), Clutter Whisperer & Keynote Speaker on a mission to help you banish your personal Clutter Monster, take control of your stuff, and create a home you’re truly proud of.
Instead of telling you to simply get rid of everything you own (or buy more storage bins to put it in), Star looks at the deeper meaning of your stuff to help you figure out WHY you feel so overwhelmed by your clutter in the first place.
She has appeared on 30+ TV shows, shared her fitted sheet folding secrets with Oprah & her fans, and created a unique organizing methodology that has helped thousands of people get (and stay!) organized (when no other system, solution, or “hack” could even make a dent in their clutter).

How Forty Drinks Changed Her Life

How Forty Drinks Changed Her Life

As she was approaching her 40th birthday today’s guest, Stephanie McLaughlin wanted to do something fun and novel to celebrate the occasion rather than the obvious big 4-0 party.  So she came up with a plan to mark the  milestone year with 40 drinks with 40 people in 40 different places and to make each drink have a symbolic connection to their relationship.
Over the course of the year she reached out to current friends, old colleagues and even old boyfriends.  She took pictures and wrote blogs of each experience and along the way she began to realize that this “fun” project  had turned into a profound reflection of her life. Happy moments, sad moments and even a few surprises.
Stephanie went in knowing that 40 was a pivotal year for her but what she got from this experience was a powerful, soul-searching journey that changed her life profoundly.
Listen in to hear Stephanie’s experience of the 40 drinks project, what she learned and how it changed her life.

Stephanie McLaughlin is the principal of Savoir Faire Marketing/Communications, a marketing agency in Manchester, NH. Stephanie’s superpower is uncovering a company’s “soul” and then developing stories about that soul that resonate with the audiences most responsible for the company’s success. She strives to help you Make Your Marketing Matter.
The Forty Drinks Project is something Stephanie did when she turned 40. She celebrated the big “four oh” having 40 drinks with 40 friends in 40 different places – and each drink had a thematic connection to the friend. What began as a ridiculous way to celebrate her birthday extended into a yearlong adventure and then revealed itself as a powerful, soul-searching journey that changed her life profoundly. On the podcast, Stephanie has conversations with guests about transformation and reinvention around the milestone birthday.
Stephanie lives in Manchester, NH, with her husband Patrick and a rambunctious black cat named Quinn. Professionally, she’s confident and optimistic. Personally, she’s sassy and a little ridiculous.
