I get why Bob had to go. His ire displayed on air was likely the tip of the iceberg of his contentious nature. His coworkers most likely endured a less restrained Bob. Pretty insufferable I’m sure. Having said that, since his departure this show has ( literally and figuratively) no cohones....Read full review »

This rating is temporary and reactionary because I completely miss Bob Garfield and his grounding of the show- I’m a listener since 2005 so I know this is probably a lot of sentimentality and i just gotta get used to the show and accept the staff’s word on it. yet, still, if it’s somehow just...Read full review »

This show used to be one of my favorites. Bob Garfield is sorely missed. I’ve turned off many of the shows since he’s been gone. Whole shows about Swedish painters or Romanian nightclub fires? No thanks. RIP OTM

Can’t believe you fired Bob over an argument. Used to be a HUGE fan of the show (and occasional monetary contributor) and it pains me to say I’ll never listen again. Shame on you, WNYC.

Brooke’s great. Bob Garfield is sorely missed. Maybe they should have had Bob on as a contributor to their series of reporting about “cancel culture.”

While I may miss Mr Garfield, This show has become bigger than any of its individual parts and I understand why he had to go. I am enjoying the more even tone of the Ms Gladstone only format and have seen no change in the standard of excellence from the team as a whole; Still one of my favorites,...Read full review »

Journalism school try-hards commenting on the state of journalism... The reason OTM seems so out of touch is that the creators share all the same assumptions, allegiances, and biases of the thing they’re supposed to be analyzing. That’s why so many episodes end up sounding just like a (slightly...Read full review »

I always valued this show and enjoyed listening to it from time to time in the past, but now I really see it as part of my essential listening routine. From my perspective, the show is a lot sharper. It is raising tougher, more important questions, and bringing in really excellent guests —some...Read full review »

Probably should’ve taken the much needed vacation before torching the entire operation, not after. OTM has lost its bearings. “Some on Twitter say this. Others on Fox News say otherwise.” A Twitter audio digest I won’t be listening to anymore.

Obviously can’t speak to how he was behind the scenes, but his voice and perspective is definitely missed on the show.

I was disappointed to hear Bob was such a jerk off the air. Still this remains the best show WNYC puts out. Brooke is a solid interviewer. Though there are definitely limits to the shows overall framing at times especially the what I hope is put-on ignorance and incredulity.

Long time listener, so well produced. Will miss Bob. Curious why there was no show covering the recent Israel / Palestinian conflict? Such awful media bias... please even if it’s later would you consider covering.

I’ve listened for 20 years and it’s a different podcast now and doesn’t seem any different than any other 20 podcasts that have recently started and will probably soon end. It doesn’t ask questions that distinguish themselves from other redundant media. R. I. P.

Bob lent it. Two heads are better... without him, it’s lost. The only show that put the world back on its axis on a weekly basis. What now? More time for reading.

Is there a way to listen to the podcast without La Brega. Please.

I can hardly listen to this show now and it used to be my favorite. Plus it is weird how happy Brooke sounds about him being gone. I just gave an uncomfortable feeling listening to it now.

Bob’s stories and his pressing questions made OTM so great. Without him I’m not so sure OTM has the same feel. With this shift so has my interest regardless of great content. End the show... start a new one. It’s no longer the same. This new episode is little focus on media and more on mental...Read full review »

The thing about Bob is that he was a unique vocal personality — and for two decades we heard a slow, thoughtful, deliberated opinion rather than the all too common contemporary news broadcast — super fast paced, rarely gives anyone a chance for a rounded conversation and relies on experts rather...Read full review »

I will no longer be a listener after the clouded and suspect firing of Bob Garfield.
Lewis.nyc via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 05/27/21
Your “farewell” to Bob was glib, shockingly disrespectful to the listener, yet alone Bob, and a sign the political correctness of the US is truly the new normal. If On the Media has gone this low, who’s next? After many years of faithful listening I will never listen again.

I’ve been dreading listening to the first show without Bob. It’s not like “Bob’s away this week”. It’s final. Whatever bullying he did, I still want to hear his voice. Twenty years! He’s a brilliant man. But Brooke is soothing and I wonder who will step in to replace him. I will still find out...Read full review »

I worked in a newspaper newsroom from 1982 to 2002 and once a week someone was yelling at someone. I got yelled at. I yelled at someone. We moved on. Maybe went out for beer afterward. Nobody was fired.

I’m sad to hear about any behind-the-scenes drama at my favorite podcast... Bob was clearly a brilliant guy, but his bias and palpable anger had been turning me off from the show since 2016. I have been an avid listener of OTM for years because they were one of the few progressive shows that still used a ctitical eye on stories that involve progressive concerns. Like all many other seemingly progressive shows that seems to be slipping. #sad

I liked Bob Garfield. It was a good 20 or so years of listening and I enjoyed the run. Bye On The Media. Maybe Bob and Mike Pesca can start a show. I’d listen to that.

Update: the firing of Bob Garfield is ridiculous. I’ll be redacting my monthly donation tomorrow (I’ve been donating for 5 years!) and I’ll no longer be subscribing to this podcast. Get a grip, WNYC. OTM has been the only radio show / podcast I’ve made sure to listen to every week for the last five years. It’s clear that the whole team working on the show puts in incredibly thoughtful work on every episode. They’ve literally been the reason I’ve continued to contribute to WNYC over the years.

Well, where to start? I love Bob, I love Brooke, and I trust WNYC. You all helped to preserve my sanity during these past four unpresidented years. But now you need to regain my trust. That requires transparency. Can we have an independent inquiry? Someway for us to reliably know what happened,...Read full review »

You just lost a five star review. Just as with On Point, another long-term journalist is cancelled with nothing but vague reasons being offered, and with no transparency. I’ve felt a distinctive change in the reporting since 2016. OTMFAN via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 05/20/21
The firing of Bob Garfield seems like an excessive & out of proportion reaction to his alleged infraction. Consider his brilliant career of the last 20yrs on this show. Has WNYC not heard of due process? Has WNYC not heard of having the punishment fit the crime? Shame on you WNYC!!!

A brilliant podcast, so sorry to hear Bob is gone. His wicked sense of humor will be terribly missed. Brooke Gladstone is good, but her exaggerated sighs were performative and irritating, hence 4/5 stars. Not sure I will continue to listen without Bob’s incisive interviews and snarky humor.

Shocked and outraged by the administration’s decision to fire Bob Garfield. As much as I am also a fan of Brooke Gladstone, the show loses much of its appeal for me and, gravely, its reputation for integrity and focus on quality. Who is going to cover THIS media disgrace?
