Bouquets & Brickbats
This group of young guys gathered around talking global football stories is articulate, smart and know their subject. The bevvy of accents and coverage of topflight football stories from all the key territories feels like just the right approach to appeal to fans of the beautiful game worldwide. But, the humor is puerile. The host is most guilty of steering it into innuendo-ridden, cheeky-chappy, facile irrelevance. It's not sexual innuendo - and wouldn't a female voice or two make all the difference - but classic laddish suggestions about drink having been taken and hangovers. It tends to play to the idea that football remains the domain of gangs of louts down the pub. And the theme tune. The cheesiest, Euro-disco ear-worm imaginable. Not everything catchy is good for you.Read full review »
