“As a fellow person in the aircraft traffic business, these guys don't cover many valuable things. Three days a week, I direct at least two aircraft in and sometimes out of the “John Hancock” FBO at Triad.
It's not all bad; I have picked up some tips for giving the pilots and passengers directions after safely directing them to their parking spot. For example, when asked, "where is the bathroom?" I now instruct them, "Straight ahead on Kilo, cleared to cross, right turn on Alpha, stay with me." I used to tell them, "straight ahead, through the main doors, down the hall on the right, and don't talk to the front desk girl." (Side note the front girl, Tiffani, thinks she's soooo important cause she has a chair and the WiFi password)
Although these two guys are funny, I have received zero pointers on my wand skills. So I flail them around, appearing just as clueless as before I started listening to the show.
These guys need to start covering the real issues: When I pilot yells "clear prop," do I need to scream "YES!" back at them? Why do we have low lead fuel when there is no high lead? and most importantly, what color wands do you recommend? (Tiffani has convinced management that I need to wear a bright yellow vest that clashes with my orange wands. I'm not happy about it and am considering taking my talents to Koury.)
A fun story once I got to direct a Navy P-3, and it was the coolest!
Now for the sole serious thought; these guys are great, my favorite podcast, and a must-listen for any pilot or Air Traffic controller (especially those center nerds)
