JACK DONOVAN | Men and Gods
Listen now
Description
My guest today is the one and only Jack Donovan. I’ve been honored to get to know him over the past several years and much of what he has shared regarding men and masculinity has shaped my own personal perspective of how we are to show up as fathers, husbands, and leaders in our business and community. Today, we talk about his latest book, Fire in the Dark. We also do a deep dive into the roles of masculinity, individual responsibility, the heroic ideal, and why we as men look to the Gods and what we can learn from them. SHOW HIGHLIGHTS Writing about men’s issues Adding value to others Different voices for different ears What defines masculinity  The eternal truths Biological constructs Rational division of labor Gender theory studies  The slippery-slope fallacy  Taking over a culture Learning to be technical Identifying weakness Settling for mediocrity Self-imposed shackles  The collapse of Moral consensus  Forming a responsible opinion JACK DONOVAN As I said earlier, my guest today is none other than Jack Donovan. Fortunately, I’ve gotten to know Jack over the past several years and we’ve spent a lot of time talking about masculinity and what it means to be a man. I was introduced to his work years ago when I read, The Way of Men, and since then, I’ve been fascinated with his interesting and unique perspectives, and his willingness to share what have only increasingly become polarizing thoughts and ideas. Jack is an extremely fascinated man and has caused me to take a hard look at what I perceive as the responsibilities of men, what it means to be a man, and how we can and should show up in the world. You guys are really going to enjoy this one. PREPARING FOR A DISASTER I think most of us pride ourselves on being prepared to deal with what life has to offer us. After all, it was Douglas Wilson who said, “The real man gains renown by standing between his family and destruction, absorbing the blows of fate with equanimity.” But the question remains, “Are you really prepared for what may come your way?” That’s the question we’re working to answer this month in our exclusive brotherhood, The Iron Council. We’ll be discussing and challenging each other to focus on the priorities of preparedness, shoring up our weaknesses, and holding each other accountable to put ourselves and our families in a better position should disaster strike. And, on top of all that, you’ll get the accountability, guidance, and direction when you band with us inside the Iron Council. To get prepared for whatever life may throw at you and to unlock access to the accountability needed to thrive, learn more and join us at www.orderofman.com/ironcouncil.
