I urge you to do your research on what happens to someone during a trauma especially to this degree because his response was more than normal and just because his response doesn’t fit your expectations of how a “normal child” should have responded does not mean you are qualified to make any kind judgement about his experience. Go read The Body Keeps the Score or anything by Bessel Van Der Kolk and Peter Levine. They are both published authors with mountains of EVIDENCE based research only a mouse click away.
