Part One: Guest Interview
Gloria, founder of The Parent Coaching Institute (http://www.thePCI.org), and author of Parenting Well in a Media Age (http://www.ParentingWellinaMediaAge.com), talks with PCI Coach Pat Tyler focuses her parent coaching at Cara Family Disability Center on supporting parents of children and adults with developmental disabilities to lead flourishing lives. In addition to becoming a certified parent coach through the Parent Coaching Institute, Pat recently completed her Master’s Degree at Lesley University where she developed the tool, Supporting Families with Children with Disabilities During Decision Making Times: A Family Decision Making Guide. Her thesis studies included extensive research on resiliency in parents.
Resiliency for all parents is the topic of this podcast. What are the key traits that help parents “bounce back” after adversity? What do we know from the research on stress reduction that we can help parents translate into their busy days? Pat shares valuable information for parents gleaned from the latest research.
The Cara Family Disability Center’s (http://www.carafamilydisabilitycenter.com)website states: “A resilient parent who has clarity of vision and understanding of both their unique strengths and challenges, as well as the child’s strengths and challenges, will be the most effective life long advocate for their child.
Our “bounce back” ability not only supports our own well-being, but enables us to be the best for our kids, also. Join us for an informative discussion and be inspired!
Part Two: The Parent Coaching Corner™
I continue coaching Geri, mom of three boys, ages 13, 11, and 9 regarding self-management of their digital devices. This is our eighth session and we are in the middle of her plan for making this summer a productive one for her sons—which includes becoming more consistent with the rules around their digital devices.
In our last session we discussed ups and downs of learning new habits and shed more light on the boys’ intrinsic motivation and what they do well when they are self-managing and enjoying making good choices for themselves. In this session we uncover that Geri is staying consistent with consequences and rules with the electronics, and consequently, the boys are taking the boundaries around electronics more seriously. And they are also learning valuable lessons form the other activities Geri provides for them. Tune in to observe the great progress Geri is making with her sons growing abilities to manage their devices.
(Listen to the seven previous podcasts to catch up with Geri.)
Please Note: You hear a portion of a one-hour coaching session. We can’t record the entire session, but we give you the important gist. For more information about PCI Parent Coaching, please visit The Parent Coaching Institute’s website.
