Not happy
The 'investigation' involved in this podcast is totally second rate. I came to this podcast looking forward to a genuine mystery, similar to those presented by the excellent 'True Crime Garage'. Instead, what I find are just a series of 'suspicions' from the victim's friends and family (I sympathise with their grief, but the podcast producers should not have given them airtime in support of their 'mystery'). Suspicions are NOT EVIDENCE. Beyond these assumptions, there is simply no credible evidence that Ant Hampel or anyone else was involved in Phoebe's death, and yet he is implicitly accused of committing this crime. The Coroner's findings are dismissed on the basis of some inconclusive experiments relating to the difficulty of someone climbing into the chute. And yet the overwhelming evidence of the day in question is that Hampel could not possibly have been involved in her death. His whereabouts were fully accounted for during the day. He arrived home at 6pm and she was found at 7pm. However, he was occupied making phone calls during the period 6-7 pm, and this is fully documented. Not to mention that Phoebe had clearly not died precisely at 7pm, but at some time prior. One other point - the video test of someone placing another person in the chute, shows the victim not resisting. If the person was conscious, they would be resisting and I suggest it would be impossible to place them feet first into the chute (unless it was an assisted suicide!!). So the only possible scenario would be that she was unconscious. OK lets look at that. So someone carried her unconscious through the building to the 12 floor chute. Really? I don't think so. The 'secret tape' was evidence of nothing. Totally worthless, and yet it was the title of an episode!. There is no credible evidence that Ant Hampel's behaviour after the death was inappropriate. Think about it. What they are suggesting is an extreme case of domestic violence. Almost invariably, in these DV cases there is a long history of abuse. And yet here…nothing. And the evidence of Phoebe's psychologist was that she complained about the relationship, but she said nothing about abuse. It is little surprise that most of the professional protagonists in the case refused to co-operate with this 'investigation'. There is no 'mystery' here. If I were Ant Hampel I would be suing the socks off The Age, and I hereby volunteer to work on the case.Read full review »

It is great so far - this podcast is bringing Radio Theater back into peoples lives. Love hearing about true crime stories from Melbourne. Cannot wait to listen to the remaining podcasts. Keep up the good work.

An interesting listen, somewhat bias however understandable considering the lack of cooperation from the Ant party... an eyebrow raiser in the parents being judges situation...
