Sleeping policemen
The XJ8 made absolute mincemeat of the sleeping policemen on the way home. Obliterated them, didn’t feel a thing. I felt sorry for the poor souls who put them in, imagine them looking at me on the side of the road in their tarmac lorries watching on as the smooth suspension and wider than average axel dimensions scythed through the road safety measures they would have literally spent hours putting in. It would be like watching Byan Giggs in full flight, but with no real need to jink left and right, just kissing the edges of the prostrate lumps of bumpy road. unlike Byan, I wouldn’t rub it in their face and take my shirt off once I completed their needless (and pointless) safety course, I needed to get home for tea, it had been a long day and Peter Penrice was due to call the landline at 7 so no time for showboating. Not my style. Why are they called sleeping policemen anyway? Come to think of it, I’ve never seen a policeman asleep. Or a policewoman for that matter. Of course they do, they must do, especially with the amount of night work they do, but I’d never seen one do it on the job. If I did, I certainly wouldn’t expect them to do it in a residential street. With the last speed killing bump neutralised with ease, I turned the last corner into my road with a wry smile. They’ll never win. Every journey I take I will defeat them with ease. But the smile didn’t last long. There - looking me straight in the eye, was Herman Hreidarsson. And boy did he look angry. I knew I was in for a long night. How I wish those sleeping policemen were real ones, and all ready to awake from their slumber.

Laughs come thick and fast in some of these stories from the 90s and will have you falling off your chair about as elegantly as Stuart McCall off a car roof. I am sure the popularity and success of this podcast will take off quicker than a Jan Aage Fjortoft goal celebration!
