“I saw in the reflection of a shop window the mafioso was still following me through the throng of Christmas shoppers. Busy crowds, in-laws and the constant pressure to imbibe, on top of the stresses and strains of modern life, it's easy to see why some fall prey to the winter blues. One can't help but worry what the psychological state of dentists - a notoriously morose profession at the best of times - is at yuletide. Although I'd like to see how a dentist deals with the pressure of a congested fixture schedule and an injury list as long as Santa's, vis a vis who's been naughty or nice. Filling the cavities of a porous back-four not with a dentist's drill, but with defensive drills. I decided to lose my tail by ducking into a shop. I opted against a Pizza Shack - catnip to a Sicilian - and veered inside, what I saw too late, was an emporium of women's lingerie. I hid behind a row of teddies, and not the kind my daughter cuddles at bedtime. "Can I help you, Sir" said a woman with an exotic accent. "Do you know who I am?" I asked, hoping not to be recognised and uncharacteristically flustered by her Mediterranean good looks. "No, Sir. In here our business is anonymity." I smiled, betraying my admiration.
