Another defeat last night and I’m relegated to the Volvo. 5-2 at home to Portstone. The forbidden word slipping further out of reach.
My mobile telephone device rings. I recognise the female voice to be that of Julie. “Yes?” “Steve, it’s Julie. The manager of Delby has phoned, he wants to buy Cabral”. I paused for a second. “Buy Cabral? My star man? He played a blinder last night. Do they think I’m a mug?” I barked back. Julie didn’t answer. Attagirl.
I knew what I need to do. Take the day off and travel to Delby and finish this nonsense myself. I started the Volvo and I was heading to the M1 for a showdown with Gary Garrison, manager of Delby.”
