“(Coming from the episodes with Michael Sandel and Jonathan Haidt)
The host tries to be as reasonable as she can be but she can’t seem to grasp the concept of virtue ethics, which is disappointing. Sandel knew he didn’t have time to explain to her in depth about it so he gave her a question to think about the limits/deficiency of utilitarianism. Instead of trying to reason about it, she invites Haidt to the show who ends up explaining it in terms of the political divide. “Sandel thinks that way because he is a communitarian (according to his Wikipedia page)”. End of story. They don’t define what is communitarian nor verify whether Sandel actually is one. It’s very much like how the uninformed likes to critique the liberal policies/politicians. “He thinks that way because he is a liberal.” The point is not where does one stand on the political spectrum but what reasons one has for believing is his/her position. Those reasons are what that should be discussed.”
