Note on tiger king episodes
I’m usually a big fan of this show, but I have to comment on a remark made by Jim in one of the Tiger King commentary episodes. Jim was remarking on how wrong he thinks it is that wildlife rescue advocates like Carole Baskin and reputable accreditation agencies (like AZA and GFAS) prohibit direct contact with exotic animals like tigers. He thinks it’s a ‘shame’ that big cats who’ve been raised by humans are suddenly deprived of human contact if they’re taken in by a reputable and conscientious sanctuary. First, don’t assign human thoughts and feelings to wild animals. They’re wild, not tame, and never will be your puppy dogs. Second, when humans interact with big cats when they’re cubs, cuddle and learn to ‘play’, there is no reason to suppose that the cats wouldn’t continue to want to play when they’re all grown up. The problem is, tigers are HUGE and STRONG, with paws the size of dinner plates. One playful bat at your head, which was fine and adorable when the tiger was a cub, and your head is crushed like an egg. The worst part of a tragedy like this is that when this happens, at least in my state (Minnesota), if an exotic animal kills a human, the county sheriff comes and kills the animal. So who has paid the price for your wanting to ‘be friends’ with this tiger? You, certainly - but the tiger, too. Please think about this consequence before you align yourselves with people who want direct contact with apex predators. Thanks for considering the implications of uninformed opinions on this subject.

I really enjoy this podcast. I would have given 5 stars but the lady that makes noises while the other two people talks is distracting and annoying.

I actually cannot listen with my ear buds because of all of the "right,right,right,right,mmhmm,yeahs,etc..." I...Read full review »
