Prepping for Round 2 vs. the Canucks, and the Kendrick/Drake beef

Prepping for Round 2 vs. the Canucks, and the Kendrick/Drake beef

It's the Monday leading into the Oilers' Round 2 matchup versus the Vancouver Canucks, which meant the boys had plenty to talk about on the new episode of the Real Life Podcast.
Starting off the podcast, the guys started the show by critiquing Tyler's fashion choices after he showed up to the podcast wearing a fresh pair of New Balances. That led to a larger conversation about how fashion trends have changed significantly depending on what era you were born.
Changing gears, the guys dove into the rap beef between Kendrick Lamar and Drake that kicked off over the last couple of weeks and how it went from talking about who's the greatest to trading barbs that are way over the line. After walking Jay through the history of the beef, the guys then walked through the best tracks in the back and forth and who everyone thinks is winning.
The fellas also discussed last night's Roast of Tom Brady and how it was an intense night of barbs for one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever do it. Given Brady's status as one of the best to ever do it, many folks were surprised that he would even accept the invitation to get cooked the way he did.
Finally, the guys arrived at the Round 2 series between the Oilers and Canucks. Even though the series is still days away from starting, the back-and-forths have already begun on social media between two fanbases that can be spicy at the best of times. On the ice, everyone on the podcast thinks this round against Vancouver will be significantly more challenging to defeat than the L.A. Kings.

The Oilers beat the Kings and are moving onto Round 2

The Oilers beat the Kings and are moving onto Round 2

Is there anything better than a fresh episode of the Real Life podcast to help you close out your week? Of course not. This Thursday, the squad discussed last night's franchise ender
Kicking off the Thursday episode of Real Life, the guys got started with a recap of the first round and how much fun it was to watch the Oilers work through those five games and knock the Kings out again. From the way Game 1 featured a Zach Hyman hat trick to last night's power play dominance, the L.A. Kings didn't have many answers for the offensive side of the Oilers' game.
Sticking with what went well in the first round, the fact that the Oilers were deadly on the special teams on the PP and PK was a major storyline in this win. The Oilers were basically a coin flip on the man advantage while also staying perfect on the PK, and that difference in execution was a massive difference-maker in winning the series.
Lastly, the guys wrapped up the Tuesday episode of Real Life with a conversation about whether we'd rather face the Vancouver Canucks or the Nashville Predators in Round 2. Given that there are pros and cons to both teams, it was interesting to hear the boys given their preference on who they'd rather face. They also looked at tonight's elimination game in Toronto and wondered whether the Leafs will be able to extend the series to Game 7 or if they'll need to start booking tee times.

Checking in from Los Angeles ahead of Game 4

Checking in from Los Angeles ahead of Game 4

We're in Los Angeles for games 3 and 4 of the playoffs, and that meant the opportunity for a hotel room edition of the Real Life podcast.
Starting off the podcast, the guys shared a lively recap of their shared experiences in Los Angeles over the last couple of days. From the way the quartet set up their room to the constant eating that Liam has been doing, the first few days of the trip have been filled with good vibes and great times.
From there, we walked through our obvious lack of knowledge about the Los Angeles area, as Tyler learned for the first time that the greater LA area is comprised of a bunch of cities. Looking around the NHL, the guys spent a couple of minutes discussing the gong show in Toronto last night and how the fanbase is melting down about last night's performance against the Bruins.
Finally, the guys talked about what to expect from tonight's matchup against the Kings and how excited everyone is about the opportunity to put a stranglehold on the series. Of course, the boys will have to play their best hockey if they want to take a 3-1 lead because you absolutely know the Kings are going to be hungry to even things up.

Getting set for Oilers Game 1 Goat and Little Bro from Utah

Getting set for Oilers Game 1 Goat and Little Bro from Utah

There's no better way to wrap up your Monday than with a fresh episode of the Real Like Podcast, and this week, the boys churned out a classic episode. The guys welcomed Goat and Little Bro from Utah to help us get set for Game 1 against the Kings while also walking us through what a potential Nation Vacation to Salt Lake City might look like now that the NHL is going.
The Real Life Podcast kicked off this week's episode by welcoming the Utah boys to the podcast to talk about their first few days back in Edmonton and how Tyler told them we were recording on Sunday instead of the usual Monday. Seeing as Tyler wrapped up the regular season on a vacation, his dates were all out of whack, and the result has been details slipping through that he normally covers.
Getting back to the Utah boys, the guys made their way back to Edmonton for games 1 and 2 against the Kings, so the boys spent some time talking about how excited they were to be back in the city and for the playoffs to get going. If you've never heard from these two guys before, they are the greatest human beings on earth, and the Real Life crew were thrilled to welcome them to the studio.
Seeing as the Arizona Coyotes are moving to Utah for next season, the guys spent a few minutes imagining what a #NationVacation to Utah might look like. Gord knows we had a blast in Arizona this past February, but there's something incredibly interesting about having a new market to potentially explore if the schedule allows.
Lastly, the guys wrapped up the Monday episode of Real Life with a Game 1 and how the Oilers are a deeper team than we've seen in a while and that could bode well for the team's success if they can play their own game. Knowing that LA will be doing what they can to get the Oilers off their game, it will be crucial for the boys to stay focused and willing to keep things simple.

Arizona's Final Game, Liam's Popcorn Addiction, and Playoff Plans

Arizona's Final Game, Liam's Popcorn Addiction, and Playoff Plans

With the regular season coming to an end tonight, the guys have a lot on their mind. First we Wanye, Jay, Liam and BM talk about the final game for the Arizona Coyotes before the ship off to Utah, breaking down their ownership, the broadcast last night and past teams in the NHL.
They soon drifted away from the Oilers to talk about the cloud seeding and floods in Dubai and the Memorial Cup in the WHL which was soon derailed by Liam's admission to buying movie theatre popcorn, just to take it home. Without even seeing a movie!
This lead to talk of our beloved Rexall Place and enjoying their last sips of legendary suds and sharing opinions on the outrageous prices of Playoff tickets this season.
Would you ever consider going to an Oilers game alone? Maybe it's not such a bad idea.
They then finish off discussing our future plans for the Playoffs where you can find us out on the road and who we would like to play in the first round.
Then Wanye and Liam went on a rant about the recent movies they've seen.
Exciting times as we wait for the final game of the regular season night against the Avalanche!

Urban farming, parking gate, and Connor McDavid is back in the lineup

Urban farming, parking gate, and Connor McDavid is back in the lineup

There's no better way to wrap up your Monday than with a fresh episode of the Real Like Podcast, and this week, the boys churned out a classic episode. The guys discussed Tyler's neighbourhood drama, urban farming, and the Oilers welcoming Connor McDavid back to the lineup after missing three straight.
The Real Life Podcast kicked off this week's episode with a diverse range of topics. From Jay's dance with a 6mg Zyn to Dogpatch's creative use of leftover bread and discussion on the number of chickens one can own in Edmonton, the first 15 minutes were a whirlwind of interesting and unexpected conversations.
Changing gears, we got the latest update on the drama on Tyler's street. Over the last year, his neighbours have been beefing in a very real way, and the story escalated once again this past weekend. The pettiness is rising to exponential levels, and the result has now been for the police to get involved. To put it simply, things are really getting out of hand.
Turning the show back to the Oilers, the guys talked about Connor McDavid's return to the lineup after missing the last three with a lower-body injury. The captain is currently sitting at 99 assists on the year with the opportunity to hit the century mark, and that had the guys feeling bullish about betting on the game in anticipation that he hits the mark against the Sharks.
Lastly, the guys wrapped up the Monday episode of the podcast with a little bit of betting talk and a Masters recap after Scottie Scheffler won his second career Masters tournament.

Best Morning Show Ever

Remember the good ol’ days? Back when you’d pull up next to someone at a stoplight and you notice they’re listening to the same raucous radio morning show? You’d look over and smile, and they’d nod back, and you’d both know you were plugged into something bigger than yourselves? A communal sort of bond? You’d feel like you really knew the personalities telling the off-color jokes and making those real life (pun intended) observations? You’d laugh, you’d learn, and then you’d get all pumped up when the discussion turned to your favorite sports team? You’d still be listening when you arrived at your destination, and sit in your car another five…ten…fifteen minutes, just to hear what happened next? That’s this podcast, only with 238% more piss talk. (I’m from the US, so most shows include SOME sort of piss talk. It’s actually required by the FCC.) Great crew, unmatched chemistry, and laughs for days and days. The greatest morning show in modern memory. Long may they reign.

Best Podcast, Full Stop

Being an Oilers fan in Rhode Island is tough, but you all are the reason I keep hanging on. McDavid, Nuge, Draisaitl…whoever the players are, may come and go, but listening to your show is the highlight of my week. I just wish you were on more often!
