Showa Era Coffee Shops, a Trip Through Time! Nishi Ogikubo, Yanaka, and Minami-Senju Cafes Ep:65

The Showa Era is a massive cultural and economic development period in Japan but its icons are often skipped over in your average trip around Tokyo. There are plenty of small, family owned coffee shops that encapsulate this post-war era's reconstruction, and they all have their quirks, from coo-coo clocks to handmade pastries.

So take a step back in time with Emily to shops that are more than your average mainstream corner cafes.

So helpful

I love listening to you guys and this has been so helpful planning my trip!

Thank you!

I found your podcast after my trip to Japan last May and wished I had found it sooner. You cover a lot of areas and restaurants that weren’t on my radar for the first trip...and some of my favorite spots like Afuri which I had found on Yelp. I have used your podcasts to compile a list for my next trip this March. Thanks for all you do!

The Japan podcast to listen to

I have checked out a number of Tokyo and Japan podcasts aNd believe this is the very best one of them all. Some of the others I have listened to have little regard for the interests of the listener. I want to hear tips for visitors and this podcast is full of them, covering great neighborhoods, things to see and do and of course some of the best restaurants to sample. I have listened to every podcast, some episodes multiple times, keep up the great work!
