I wish there were more stars
Hi, I currently work at a state funded outpatient behavioral health center as an RSS (recovery support specialist). That means I’m certified in having lived experience recovering from substance use and PTSD and all kinds of other stuff. I used the real needle with MY heroin, unlike those weenie undercover popo’s. Anywho, I would like to go back to school and become a therapist. Your podcast has been such a wealth of info! Also, I regularly look like a maniac thanks to y’all because I frequently laugh out loud while listening. I do want to say even Though you say EMDR is a pseudo science, it completely changed my life! I had a lifetime of repeated traumatic events that led to extreme social anxiety, depression, self harm and drug abuse / addiction. I had no idea my negative thoughts and negative beliefs about myself were all due to those traumatic events / very high ACE score. I had no idea my heart and thoughts racing, palms sweating, hands shaking, and my stuttering when in a room full of people were due to trauma. I just thought it must be normal to feel that way, and no therapist I had ever seen had ever told me anything other than “replace your thoughts with positive ones” or “use these coping skills” which just never worked. I did EMDR, combined with CBT to help me replace the negative beliefs about myself, for about a year. I went from having a silent panic attack every time I walked into an AA meeting to speaking in front of 50 people and telling my story, facilitating RSS groups for 100 or more clients, and only having one or two panic attacks At all since the therapy, which I completed about a year ago. I know many people who have had their lives changed by EMDR and I tell every client who presents with ptsd about how much it helped me. I also know that doesn’t make it NOT a pseudo science as my experience is not empirical. But my experience and so many others’ experience do add to those that lead some agencies to call emdr an “evidenced based” form of therapy. Ok I love you guys!! You are my #relationshipgoals #bantergoals! Muah!

I love this podcast and have binge listened to it over the past few weeks to get caught up. I love the silly banter and jokes that accompany some of the more serious topics. I feel this helps me retain the information better. Also, will you fart in my sandwich? J/k. That was a call back to a...Read full review »
