Keeping things in perspective
I’ve loved this podcast since I happened upon the golf course episode last year and, after reading all the backlash in recent reviews, think it’s important to consider the purpose of this show and what it has to offer. This is not a news podcast or a hard-hitting exposé. It’s a historical review, and what is history but an interpretation of past ideas and events? MG provides a counter-narrative to prevalent interpretations of events, challenging the temptation to simply accept those interpretations at face value. You don’t have to agree with his interpretations to derive value from this podcast. If the point is for listeners to think more critically about our own understandings of the world and shift our perspectives, it wouldn’t make sense to just adopt MG’s perspective outright. I enjoy this podcast because it makes me think about things differently—challenge dominant narratives and possibly MG’s in the process of developing my own understanding. The story-telling is some of the best I’ve ever heard, and the content is consistently thought-provoking. Listen if you want to have an hour of critical reflection built into your week!

Gladwell is one of the greatest thinkers of our time, and as such, I had only the highest of expectations for what he could bring to the podcast world. You...Read full review »
