“I wanted to love this podcast. I'm a history fan and am subscribed to many historical podcasts.. Once I read about this podcast in a blog post and saw the amazing cover, I was hooked. What can be more interesting than the ridiculous aspects of our history?
However, the hosts are obviously not only fans of history but also of movies, music and everything else, because 40 % of the time they digress from the topic and talk about some vaguely related movie scene or life experience. Some people might really like that since it is similar to a typical US radio show, but it's not for me. I want to learn and they could make an episode only half as long if they took out all the small talk.
Another minus are the ads. Sure, somehow such a podcast must be financed and I'm not opposed to ads generally. I understand. But there are too many! And they repeat ad nausea (pun not intended). I remember hearing the very same ad three times in one episode. Not to mention that all of them are somehow politically motivated.
Last but not least, the podcast, I mean the files, seem to be broken. I must be subscribed to around 30 podcasts, but it only happens with this one: Some episodes stop playing in the middle all of a sudden and when I try to restart them my iPod jumps directly to the next episode. This happens even when I remove the episodes and put them back in my iPod. So far it happened with 5-6 episodes that I could never finish. I haven't tried re-downloading the episodes yet, but the fact that this happens at all is very frustrating.
The only reason why I don't give less stars to it is that some of the episodes do work and the presented information is great, if you ignore the off-topic and the many ads.”Read full review »
